Dear Sister,
Today was a very special day. Brooke drove all the way from St. George just to see you for the day. She has to work tomorrow and could only stay till 9pm, but she wanted to see you so bad and couldn't wait another day! She loves you so much!
She could not believe how much you have grown. She thinks you are beautiful and the cutest baby girl in the whole wide world! We agree 100%!
Brooke brought with her a very special gift. She made for you a beautiful quilt that you will have for the rest of your life. It is amazing.
Quilts are a gift of love, Sis. The material is picked out with love and thought. Each piece is sewn together with great care. It is a labor of love that will last forever and will provide not only beauty, but warmth when it's cold.
But I also think quilts are very symbolic. Sister, we are all separate pieces in this life, carefully brought together by our Heavenly Father. He puts us together in a beautiful way and with His love we become stronger and better with one another. We provide warmth and love to each other that we could not have on our own. He is the "thread" that holds all of us together. He makes us beautiful.
May this precious gift always remind you of the love Brooke has for you, the blessing that it is to have each other, AND who makes it all possible...
Yes, it is a very special gift indeed.
I love you so much,
Mom

Tucked in my Arm
Dear Little Sister,
You are still so tiny. You fit like a snug little bug in the corner of my left arm. You are slightly propped up against my chest and I hold on to your left leg- voila- the perfect chair for my perfect girl.
During the day we have lots to do... up and down the stairs with brother, doing dishes, vacuuming the floor... and most of the time you stay perfectly content tucked there in my arm. My right hand is free to do all that a mommy needs to do.
Sometimes I look down and am surprised to see that you are still wide awake- watching the world around you, not wanting to miss a thing. Other times you have slipped into a restful slumber and are fast asleep.
When you are asleep and brother is being noisy I put you down in your room to give you a more peaceful nap. But guess what? In a matter of minutes you are awake- you love the noise of our life. It is a comfort to you.
You are able to sleep all night long in your own bed, so I am not worried.
As long as you are comfortable there, you are welcome to stay tucked in my arm.
Love you Sweet Girl,
Mom

The Stretch...
Dear Little Sister,
You have perfected the art of the ultimate stretch.
I love to watch you stretch. You arch your little back and raise your arms high in the sky. Your legs stay bent close to your body.
Every morning when I go in to get you to start our day, I lift you up out of your bed and you give me one of your perfect stretches. It makes me want to stretch too!
Love you,
Mom

Linty Lou Lou
Dear Sweet Ellie,
You have a new nick name... Linty Lou Lou.
You have a cutest little hands and fingers, you are such a dainty little girl.
Most of the time your fingers are kept close together or even in a fist. You are hiding a secret, your secret lint stash. :) Even bath time does not remove your lint without some effort. I have to open up your hand and stretch your fingers apart to pick out the pieces. Every time I am amazed at what you are hiding. You make me smile!
I love you little Lou Lou...

Music to our ears
Dear Little Sister,
Today you started cooing. It was the sweetest thing ever. Absolute music to our ears!
You were laying on a blanket in the family room and I had just changed your diaper. I was talking to you and all of a sudden you responded with a little "Ooooo". It was so cute! I copied your sound and you just smiled and smiled, and then you did it again, "Ooooo". It was as if we were having a conversation and I loved it.
Daddy came home from work and I told him all about your new talent. He started talking to you and sure enough you started talking to your daddy. He was so proud of you!
You are growing up little one.
Love,
Mom

2 Months Old!!
Little Sister,
Today you are TWO months old! My goodness, two whole months! We went to the doctor and here are your current stats:
Today you are TWO months old! My goodness, two whole months! We went to the doctor and here are your current stats:
Weight: 9 1/2 pounds
Height: 22 inches
Wow! You are growing so much and are so healthy! You constantly sleep 8 hours every night and during the day eat 3 ounces every 3 hours.
You are now wearing a size 1 diaper. They are probably a bit big on you- but I was buying a big box of diapers and is seemed silly to get a big box of newborn when you were almost 2 months old. :)
Your 0-3 month clothing are still big on you, but I just can't resist and put you in some of them because they are so cute.
You are such a joy. You have only been on this earth for 2 months, but I can honestly say we cannot remember life without you. You are the perfect addition to our family.
We love you little one, so so much!

Mom

Starting to Smile
Sweet Little Ellie,
You have been smiling since the day you were born. You are a smiley girl! We have so many great pictures of you smiling, smiling, smiling. You are so precious!
But for the most part, your smiles have been here and there with no real rhyme or reason... until today. I picked you up from your crib this morning, kissed your forehead and snuggled you close like I do every morning. When I looked down you were smiling. I sat down with you and tickled your little chin and began talking to you... you continued to smile. I could not believe it! You are only a month old and are giving full blown, purposeful smiles.
You are so full of expression... we always know what you are thinking by the look on your cute little face. When I try to give you a binkie and you don't want it, you spit it out and give me a look of disgust. When you are tired you will flash your half smile that says, I love you.
Your smiles mean the world to us...
Much love,
Mom

Luscious Lashes
Sweet Little Ellie,
When you were born you had gorgeous little eye lashes. But just recently they have thickened up noticeably and you, little one, have luscious lashes! They are thick and dark and seem to look longer everyday. You are so lucky! Right now your eyes are crystal blue and with your dark hair you are such a beauty. In fact, people comment every where we go what a beauty you are. You are a little china doll... so beautiful, so perfect!
Your face is filling out and your little cheeks are just so kissable... but you are still so tiny. You are still wearing newborn clothes because everything else is just too big on you...
Little girl with a very big spirit, we love you so much!
XOXO

A Special Visit
Sweet Little Ellie,
Today we had a very special visit. Today Brooke drove up from St. George for some special time. We love her so much and feel like she is family... she is family now.
Brooke googled over you and gave you kisses and hugs. She could not believe how much you had grown in just 2 weeks. She thinks you are the prettiest baby in the whole wide world. Yep, she is right! You are so beautiful.
She was able to stay for a couple of hours and we will have her and Wendy over for dinner tomorrow- how exciting! We also invited Aunt Lynell and her whole family! It will be a fun full house!
You are so lucky to have so many people love you so much! You are a very special little girl.
Very special indeed!
I love you,

Two Weeks Old
Sweet Little Ellie,
Today you are two weeks old. TWO WEEKS!! My goodness how time flies. We took you to the the doctors for you two week check up and you had some impressive stats...
You were 19.5 inches long (which is in the 50%) and 6 pounds 10 ounces (which is in the 20%)
You have gained a whole pound since you left the hospital- the doctor was amazed! You are long and skinny... but we didn't need a doctor to tell us that! :)
Dr. Johnson checked you out head to toe and pronounced to us that you were perfect... once again, we didn't need a doctor to tell us that!
You are so sweet. At two weeks you tend to be more alert in the evening. You are very aware for a newborn, and generally very quiet, but it is in the evening that you practice using your vocal cords. (smile)
We love you so much and are so glad you are growing so well!
Love you little missy!

Full of Love
Sweet Little Ellie,
Yesterday Grammy arrived. She flew from California and could not wait to meet you. She loved you and held you so tight. We took some pictures and you flashed one of you million dollar smiles. Oh how you make us smile! She just loves you to pieces.
Grammy and I were talking about love. Love is an amazing thing. Grammy told me that she loved you so much, even before she even met you. We loved you even before you were born. Your birth mom loved you before she could even feel you in her tummy.
Love is action. Love is a decision. Love is a blessing.
You, sweet girl, will love deeply. You have a loving heart that will have lots to offer those in need. I feel strongly that you will love others without reservation. You will love because you have so much love to give. I also feel strongly that when people meet you, they will feel Heavenly Father's love.
That is a precious gift! You are a precious gift.
We love you so much!
Love,
Mom

Looking to the Right...
Sweet Little Ellie,
Tonight I sat holding you and you were wide awake. You are so alert for a newborn, you are simply amazing. You often catch my gaze and our eyes lock for several minutes. In those precious moments I feel like I can see into eternity. You make me think about heaven and how you were just there. You make me think about my Heavenly Father looking down on you and missing you in His arms. You, little one, remind me of all that is precious to me.
Tonight your little head was turned far to the right, looking away from me. I turned you so I could see into your eyes. Seconds later you turned your head again, staring intently to the right. Again I turned your head and almost instantly you turned back.
"Sweet girl, what are you looking at?" I asked you out loud. I turned to look in the direction you had been looking and suddenly froze. I realized that you had been looking towards a picture of Christ we have on our wall.
Tears filled my eyes.
I know they say newborns can only see a short distance, but you... you were looking at your Savior. You seemed to be communicating with Him. I'm sure you were telling Him how much you miss Him and love Him. Perhaps you were telling him your experiences in your new little body, with all of the crazy bubbles and burps, the kisses and hugs.
Never stop looking to Him, sweet girl. He is there, and He is watching over you.
Always.
I love you so much! Thank you for bringing heaven into our home.
Love,
Mommy

Your first week of life
Sweet Little Ellie,
One week ago today you were born. You are a whole week old and what a wonderful week it has been!
Oh how you make us smile! You are so alert and you smile all the time. In fact, the other day I was holding you while you were sleeping and you started to giggle... it was so sweet.
You have such a big spirit. You are tiny, but your spirit is very big. When I look into your eyes I know you could tell me wonderful things about heaven. I wish you could tell me those things. But even without words I can feel Heavenly Father's love when I look at you. You are His very special daughter and He loves you so very much.
Your brother is so cute with you. He absolutely adores you. He wants to be close to you all of the time. He is worried if you cry and if you are sleeping he likes to tickle your toes to wake you up. I know he looks forward to the day the two of you can play together. I have a feeling that day will come sooner than we think.
Tonight for the first time we took you out. We went out to eat and I loved saying that we needed a table for 4. We are a family of FOUR and dad and I love it... we feel so, so blessed!
This has been the best week of our life.
We love you so much!
Love,
Mom

Meeting Big Brother
Sweet Little Ellie,
We were very excited for you to meet you big brother for the first time.
Cal was up at Aunt Lynell's house and we got home before they got here. When we saw them pull up dad grabbed the video camera and I walked out onto the front porch with you. We could see Cal light up and he started signing 'baby' with the most enthusiasm I have ever seen! :) They unbuckled him and as quickly as his little legs would carry him he scurried over to you... signed baby again... looked at you and then honked your little nose.
We were hoping for a tender moment. Perhaps a kiss or a gentle hug but I think a honk on the nose will be something we will all giggle about for many years to come.
Little sister, big brother... I love it and I can't wait to see the cute relationship the two of you will have with each other.
Love,
Mom

Becoming Ours
Dear Little Ellie,
Today was a very emotional day. There were very happy emotions and there were very sad emotions. It is probably hard to understand, but you can feel happy and sad at the same time.
Today was the day that we would bring you to your new home. Daddy and I were so excited we could not even sleep that night. We could not wait for you to meet your brother. We knew that he would love you so much! We couldn't wait to have you come and join our family.
But we were also sad. We knew this day would be so hard for Brooke. During the night, while I lay there awake, my heart ached for her knowing she was about to do the hardest thing in her life, letting you go. She had prayed very hard and knew it was what Heavenly Father wanted, but that did not make it easy. Sometimes doing the right thing is the hardest thing to do in life. She is very brave and is full of faith.
Little Ellie, in life you may face some difficult decisions. You may want to take the easier way, but I want you to think of Brooke and the example she has already set for you. You grew inside her tummy and you possess that same strength. She wanted you to have a family, a mom and a dad and a big brother that can protect you and love you so much. She will always love you and that is why she was able to make this very hard choice.
At 11am daddy and I went to the hospital, signed a whole pile of papers, promising to love you and take care of you. Those were easy promises to make, we already love you so much!
Then Brooke brought you in with her family. You looked so precious. Brooke and I hugged and my heart was so full of love for her. There were lots of tears. She gave us the greatest gift anyone can give. She gave us you.
It is a day I will never forget. It was a day I will tell you about over and over. All of her family members held you and kissed you and told you how much they love you. Yes, there were many tears.
But this is not goodbye forever. You will know them and they will continue to love you forever and ever and ever just like we do. You are a very lucky little girl to be loved by so many.
Very lucky indeed!
I love you,
Mommy

A Heavenly Celebration
Dear Sweet Ellie,
Today you are just one day old. Dad and I arrived in St. George at 8:30am and went straight to the hospital to meet you. Daddy was in Washington DC and jumped on the first plane possible to get home and come see you.
We walked into Brooke's hospital room and there you were... both dad and I could feel Heavenly Father's love when we looked at you. You are the prettiest, sweetest little girl ever. You are so tiny and new, and yet your smile lights up our world. You have the most beautiful hands ever. You are very petite and very feminine. You never cry and are very alert for a newborn baby. You are so pleasant, so content, so full of love.
Early that afternoon it started to rain, a wonderful summer storm. It quickly dried up and the most spectacular rainbow crossed the entire sky. Soon after that, a double rainbow appeared. The thought came to my mind that the heavens were celebrating your birth and painted the sky in glorious colors to welcome you. You are very special and the heavens created this beautiful scene just for you, sweet Ellie.
You are watched over by angels and if you listen carefully you will be able to hear them signing sweetly to you. I know it true because when I'm near you I can feel them, I can even hear them.
We love you so much,
Love,
Mommy

The thought came to my mind that the heavens were celebrating your birth and painted the sky in glorious colors to welcome you. You are very special and the heavens created this beautiful scene just for you, sweet Ellie.
You are watched over by angels and if you listen carefully you will be able to hear them signing sweetly to you. I know it true because when I'm near you I can feel them, I can even hear them.
We love you so much,
Love,
Mommy

Happy Birthday Little One...
Dear Sweet Ellie,
Today is your birthday. Happy Birthday!! Welcome to the world! It is a wonderful world with many beautiful things and you are going to love it!
You are loved by so many... deeply loved. We all have been praying for you and your health, also the health of your birth mother, Brooke. Our prayers have all been answered, what an amazing blessing!
You are a blessing!
Dad and I are heading down to St. George as soon as possible and cannot wait to meet you. You are a miracle, a precious miracle in our life!
You need to know, little one, how much you are loved by your birth-mother. It is an incredible blessing that you will know her and you will always know how loved you are by her entire family.
You are so loved, so incredibly loved!
Happy Birthday little Peanut!
Love,
Mom
